Question2Answer SEO Meta Tags plugin allows you to block pages from being indexed by search engines using the “noindex, follow” meta tags. When configured, this will prevent duplicate content and boost your search engine rankings.
If you haven’t already, I highly recommend adding your site to Google Webmaster Tools. Webmaster tools will show you any duplicate title and description issues you have thus removing any guess work on what pages you should disable indexing on. There are no “perfect settings” for everyone, it all depends on how you have your Q&A site set up.
Requirements : Q2A 1.5.4+ Current Version : 1.0
Download Link : Q2A-SEO-Meta-Tags.zip
To install the Q2A SEO Meta Tags plugin, create a folder called seo-meta-tags in your qa-plugin directory and copy the qa-plugin.php, qa-seo-meta-tags-layer.php and qa-seo-meta-tags-admin-form.php in to that folder. To activate the plugin, head over to the Admin / Plugins section and enable the pages you would like to block from being indexed. Feel free to leave any questions, comments and suggestions below!

I hope this will solve my duplicate content issue. I will use this on my site and will let you know for any improvements or problems. Thanks for this important plugin.
Thanks. I was looking for something like this based on Panda and Penguin updates.
This is what I have been looking for. Thanks for the plugin, it helped me get rid of duplicate pages!
Thank you for producing all your plugins. I am using most of them on my latest project. Can you please give us an update on which of your plugins are 1.6 compatible?
Thanks,
Simon
@Simon – Both plugins are 1.6 compatible. Are you having any issues with them?
My duplicate content warnings are:
E.g:
/3920/english-essay-ideas-for-this-prompt
/3920/english-essay-ideas-for-this-prompt?show=3926
Using your plug-in, is there a way I can apply noindex, nofollow to the second URL here?
@James – No, and I’m not sure why Google is giving you that warning in the first place. You have the “canonical” meta tag already set.
Did you recently upgrade your Q2A site?
I used to run OSQA, but migrated across from OSQA -> Q2A about a week or two ago.
Possibly it’s something to do with that?
@James – It doesn’t appear so. I would wait a week or 2 and see if it clears itself up. You have everything setup correctly on that page.
How to install and options?
Google is indexing pages that I don’t want it to.
/user/Tara/questions
/user/Jean/activity
Anyway to stop that? Plugin appears to be setup properly.
Hello.
I’ve installed your plugin and I don’t know how to use it.
WHat should I check on the settings to get the best results?
Sorry newbie on these things.
Apply “noindex,follow” to recent activity? ( example.com/activity )
Apply “noindex,follow” to questions page? ( example.com/questions )
Apply “noindex,follow” to hot questions page? ( example.com/hot )
Apply “noindex,follow” to ask a question page? ( example.com/ask )
Apply “noindex, follow” to recent questions without answers page? ( example.com/unanswered )
Apply “noindex,follow” to categories? ( example.com/questions/ )
Apply “noindex,follow” to recent questions for a tag? ( example.com/tag/ )
Apply “noindex, follow” to most popular tags page? ( example.com/tags )
Apply “noindex,follow” to feedback page? ( example.com/feedback.php )
Apply “noindex,follow” to login page? ( example.com/login )
Apply “noindex,follow” to register page? ( example.com/register )
Apply “noindex,follow” to search page? ( example.com/search?q= )
Apply “noindex,follow” to user pages? ( example.com/user/ )
Apply “noindex, follow” to top scoring users page? ( example.com/users )
@Fredss – It all depends how your Q&A site is setup. Add your site to Google Webmaster Tools. Webmaster tools will show you any duplicate title and description issues you have thus removing any guess work on what pages you should disable indexing on.
@Brian – it doesn’t appear Q2A has any ‘hooks’ to be able to do that. I can only add meta tags to (example.com/user/) – nothing further than that.
Google is telling me that I have a ton of crawl errors. All ending in login=facebook and goolge=facebook.
Any ideas on how I can fix this..
@Dominick – when you enable the option “Apply “noindex, follow” to login page?” – does this not solve the issue?
It could take a week (or more) for Google to pick up the changes.
Dave – No not at all. I’ve had that setting set ever since. However I would have to say it may be ever since I started using the plugin “Open Login v2.0.2 by Alex Lixandru”
Dominick – Yeah, I do not see any ‘hooks’ I could use to solve that issue. Your best bet is to contact Alex and ask him to hardcode the “noindex, follow” meta tag in his plugin to resolve that problem. It would be really easy for him to do.
I have just implemented the plugin, though I had not come to receive any such complains Google as my site is fairly new but I was going to be next in line. Thank otherwise.
Greetings and great plugin! However, as in the new version of q2a, there are many other user pages, such as user questions ( like http://ask.fclose.com/user/Eric+Zhiqiang+Ma/questions ) which are not handled by this plugin. II am wondering whether do you have any plan to support these additional pages?
Can you post this project to GitHub? I’d like to contribute a few additions to your code… something like those suggested by Eric Ma. I’ve already implemented them on my site, now I’d like to share.
I haven’t looked at this code in over a year. I have a lot going on right now, but I hope to update this soon.
@Dan – The code is now on GitHub. I’ve updated the post and included the link to it.
Thanks for that great plugin. It will be perfect for my qa site. Because every one has issue about dublicating.
Really useful addition
I personally see it helpful to prevent archiving of tags
Too many tags. Deterioration of site status
thanks.
Great plugin … and practically has an effect on page ranking under Q2A. Tnx!
this is a great plugin. thanks
